Prioritizing Children’s Media

Keeping an eye on the state of the Canadian children’s media industry

Prioritizing children's media

Speaking up for our kids

The Rocket Fund has always been a champion of Canadian children’s media. As our industry changes, we continue to take a stand for our children to ensure they have a voice in any decisions being made that affect them.

Our children deserve better

There have been significant recent contractions in the kids screen industry, and we need to ensure content for kids is not left behind. You’ve heard us say it time and again: high-quality Canadian children’s programming fosters positive values, builds diverse cultural awareness and pride, and sparks imagination and critical thinking through a mix of entertainment and education. Exposure to quality content can lead kids away from the more negative and sometimes toxic content that’s widely available to them.

Enhancing the well-being of children with new and relevant stories that help them navigate the world far exceeds the “burden” of financial investment in new kids content. And yet, legacy companies, governments and regulators no longer seem to value the importance of the kids media sector. Any feeling of responsibility to children seems to have been lost.

If we don’t figure out how to finance and create new and relevant programs that are reflective of the world kids live in, we will have failed them.

We need a movement that prioritizes quality children’s content – now more than ever. How do we ensure kids are prioritized in future government decisions?

Stay up to date.
