About the Initiative
The CMF-SRF Kids Digital Animated Series Program invested in digital animated series that focused on creativity and originality, showed the potential to evolve into a subsequent season or a longer format, and used technology to increase animation quality.
The Canada Media Fund and Shaw Rocket Fund joined forces in 2018 to give Canadian producers funding for new digital animated series for kids. Eligible projects were original, animated series, in their first season, which met the CMF’s definition of Children and Youth programming, created initially for digital distribution on a platform that is meaningfully available to Canadian audiences and had a meaningful release on a digital platform.
Over six rounds of funding, the CMF and Rocket Fund invested more than $23M in 50 animated series. We are thrilled to have played a part in getting these series produced for kids. Some have been picked up by broadcasters, have grown to include associated content, or have entered festivals and won awards!
